Lesson Steps:

  1. Students login to FQI, and go to About Me Mountain. Click on the treasure chest, and select the “When I Felt..” writing prompt.

  2. Introduce the activity by viewing the picture as a class. Solicit two or three  examples of how the boy feels (lonely, sad, mad, etc.). Explain that there are times when we all have felt that way. Ask students to think of a time when they felt the same way as the boy in the picture.

  3. Students will write 1-2 paragraphs about a time they felt like the boy in the picture.

  4. Debrief by asking if any students want to share their response. Students can also share in pairs or small groups. As this is a potentially sensitive topic, an alternative debrief question may work better. Students can explain what they would have done as a bystander in that situation. Students can share advice they would give the boy.
